Our computer program continues to expand at St. Mary's. We have a a Mac based server that includes thirty iMacs in our computer lab and two iMacs in our Learning Assistance Center. Our school also has two Smartboards™, one in our computer lab and another in the Grade 7 classroom.
Students learn the following skills while they attend St. Mary's: Keyboarding, Word Processing, Musical Composition, Basic Animation, Graphic Novel Creation, Internet Use, Advanced Research Techniques, Graphics and Data Analysis skills. This year's additions to our Techno-Toys: a digital camera, a video camera, the ELMO™, and several portable projectors.
This subject is taught to all grades by a French specialist.
We have a music specialist who teaches music to both our Primary and Intermediate grades. We have two active choirs that get lots of practice performing for others. We have also included a Grade 7 band that performs several times a year. We also produce a musicals every two years.
This subject is taught to all grades by a trained Physical Education specialist twice a week.
A full-time specialist works with children having learning difficulties. Our specialist also manages a group of Educational Aids which work with individuals and small groups of students from all grades.
He works one day per week in the library and coordinates a system of parent volunteers to maintain our Library on a day to day basis. This year we upgraded our library system to L4U to aid in maintaining the catalogue and promoting readership in our school. The Librarian also runs the Readers Are Leaders Program for Grade 6 and 7 students.
The very first musical that was performed in the church basement in the spring of 1996 was "Joseph and the Technicolour Dreamcoat" in honour of Father Joe Cuddy who wanted to install a proper stage in the church basement in hopes that the students word perform this particular musical.
